Now that April is just around the corner and spring is in the air, it’s time (almost) to put away the winter jackets and to get ready for nature and the outdoors again. If you live in Durham Ontario and are wondering what to do for you and your family this April 2023, the following is our top pick for you.
Markham
Starting from the east end of Toronto, the Toronto Zoo has a number of events going on including “Terra Lumina – An Enchanted Night Walk” which is an immersive experience along a 1.5km walking path, and also the Spring Marketplace, where over 50 local artisans, producers and processors will gather and present their offerings, seasonal food and beverages.
Pickering and Ajax
Moving closer to Durham are the towns of Pickering and Ajax with amazing waterfront trails to take a leisurely stroll on. The Pickering Nautical Village at Frenchman’s Bay Marina as well as the Pickering Village on the border of Pickering and Ajax are also two great spots to visit if you enjoy quaint shops and cafes, as well as architecture and history.
Whitby
The Reptilia Zoo of Whitby are one of Canada’s largest indoor reptile facilities. You can spend the whole day there and attend the scheduled shows and feedings of the mysterious creatures that live there.
Oshawa
The Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens is at its best in the summer but all the parks are fully open in the spring. With its scenic gardens, architectural features, serene water features and winding pathways, you will get an experience that is second to none.
Clarington
The Easter Bunny is visiting downtown Bowmanville on Saturday of Easter weekend (Saturday April 8th). Little ones can come to get their photos taken and receive a free easter treat as well.
Chronicle Brewing Co, Bowmanville
April 28th and 29th we'll be celebrating our 5th anniversary! Two days of live music and food trucks, our event space and upstairs bar will be open to the public and we will be featuring 5 brand new beer releases, each one a collaborative brew with another amazing Ontario brewery!
